Metroequilibrium: NY Governor’s Island Multi-Media Installation

Metroequilibrium is a multimedia installation that explores responsive technologies through AI and body-tracking software, offering an interactive and immersive gallery experience. Exhibited as part of the Elements: In Art and Tech exhibition on Governor’s Island at the Harvestworks Gallery in Nolan Park, New York City, the work invites participants into a dynamic interplay of movement, sound, and light. Utilizing Jitter and responsive light projection, the piece reflects the chaotic energy of urban soundscapes, creating an overwhelming and frenetic sensory encounter. Viewers become performers as they activate the installation using cameras and Google MediaPipe, which capture and interpret the silhouette of bodily motion—including the contours of the hands/wrists, face/neck, feet/ankles. These gestures generate a spontaneous audiovisual composition that shifts between moments of discord and calm, blurring the boundary between observer and creator.
