Atlantic Music Festival Premiere of Broken Futures
This past summer, as part of a music residency at the Atlantic Music Festival, the AMF musicians, consisting of clarinet, cello, and piano, premiered his new composition, Broken Futures. The performance took place at the Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts at Colby College in Maine. The piece explores the two contrasting soundscapes with a strong unison of the instrumentation with syncopated rhythmic pulses that suddenly move into a dreamlike sound texture with a sense of sorrow and loss. Explosive rapid and aggressive shifts in tempo come and go throughout the piece in unexpected and abrupt shifts between these two sound experiences.
