For Walden
Walden is a composition that expresses a dream like immersion in two movements. The first movement, the Sunset Overfield, has a slow and free meter, as well as liberally applied pedal action which creates a fluid and watercolor feeling that blurs boundaries and allows for colors to bleed, making edges imperceptible. It was written to capture the moment when the sun disappears along the horizon along the water. The second movement, Far Away in the Dusk, a constant texture of triads subtly clashes with intervals of minor ninths on the piano. Over the length of this piece, the notes expand from the center of the keyboard until the last notes, which are the top and bottom register of the instrument define distant connections that fade away.
